Man United have surprisingly joined the race to sign soon to be out of contract right-back Bacary Sagna according to the Daily Star.

The 31 year old has turned down a two year contract extension from the Gunners that would have seen Sagna’s salary increase by £15k a week and will now look to maximize his earning potential elsewhere.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Galatasaray are all said to be interested in the French international though he apparently wants to stay in the Premier League, which could lead to Man United & Man City fighting it out for the Arsenal star.

Sagna is said to want £100k a week and that is presumably a deal both Manchester sides are willing to pay given that the Arsenal man will not cost a penny and the Old Trafford side’s need is certainly greater than that of their local rivals.

Thus far this season neither Rafael or Chris Smalling have impressed in the right-back role and Sagna would offer the Old Trafford side a real improvement in the area though any move may have to wait until a permanent manager is appointed.
