Allianz Arena is looking to bring in 26 year old Blues star Luiz to boost his defensive options whilst the former Benfica man has only really been used in a defensive midfield role by Mourinho in recent months, and even then chiefly due to players being unavailable.
Mourinho’s need for a striker would certainly outweigh their need to keep hold of Luiz and it may therefore depend greatly on just how highly the Portuguese boss rates Mandzukic.
The 27 year old Croatian would certainly offer an improvement on the likes of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o and Mandzukic appears set to be surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich with Robert Lewandowski set to join the Bavarian club in the summer.
Mandzukic has scored regularly since leaving Wolfsburg for the German giants, scoring 22 goals in his first campaign and racking up 26 in all competitions thus far this term.
