Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the former Tottenham forward and wants to reunite with him after sharing a strong working relationship with him during his time in charge of the club last season.

Modric is believed to be keen on a return to London, but sources close to the player have also suggested that he is more than happy in Spain and is currently please with the form he has been showing for the club as of late.

The 28-year-old has played a key role in keeping Carlo Ancelotti’s men within touching distance of the La Liga title, and the club have made it clear to Chelsea that they are not willing to part with the player, especially as he still has three years remaining on his current deal.

With Modric unavailable, Mourinho has turned his attentions to Tottenham midfielder Paulinho – a player the Portuguese regards as a long-term replacement for veteran Frank Lampard.
