Arsenal are lining up a move to sign a pair of unhappy Bayern Munich stars as Arsene Wenger looks to improve his Gunners squad this summer.

CaughtOffside understands that representatives of the Emirates Stadium side have made an approach as to the availability of forward Mario Mandzukic who is said to be pushing to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the current campaign.

The 27 year old isn’t impressed with Pep Guardiola’s decision to sign Borussia Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski and believes that the imminent arrival of the Polish international will result in a more limited role for the Bayern Munich marksman.

Mandzukic believes his performances of the past two seasons have been enough to suggest that he is more than capable of leading the line and his record of 48 goals in 87 appearances speaks for itself.

Guardiola will not stand in the way of the former Wolfsburg man’s exit and Bayern Munich are thought to want £25m for the Croatian international and Wenger is keen on securing the Bundesliga man before the 2014 World Cup finals get underway.

Wenger is also ready to make his interest in Spanish powerhouse Javi Martinez known after being encouraged by the player’s agent to make an offer for the 25 year old midfielder.

The former Athletic Bilbao man has started just 13 of Bayern Munich’s 33 Bundesliga matches this term and doesn’t see the situation improving in the long run and therefore could be ready to consider a fresh challenge.

Though both Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to have an interest in Martinez the box to box performer is said to be keen on a possible Premier League switch.

Currently Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta offer Wenger steel in the centre of the park but Martinez would certainly offer a significant improvement on the aging pair.

Arsene Wenger had been linked with a move to sign Martinez when he was emerging as a real talent at San Mames but was beaten to the punch by Bayern Munich but the north London side will look to clinch a deal to bring in the rangy midfielder by offering £30m for the Basque battler.
