Portugal star limps out of the warm-up at the Santiago Bernabeu, casting doubts over his availability for the Champions League final and possibility the World Cup too.
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is a fitness doubt for next Saturday’s Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
The former Manchester United wideman injured his hamstring in the 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid earlier this month.
After subsequently missing the 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo, Ronaldo was originally passed fit for today’s La Liga clash with Espanyol.
However, he felt discomfort during the pre-match warm-up and was replaced in the starting line-up by Isco.
The 29-year-old, who has scored 47 goals in 40 league and Champions League matches this season, now faces a race against time to be available for next weekend’s European showpiece in Lisbon.
His latest injury setback will also be a big concern for Portugal, who play their first match at this summer’s World Cup on June 16, when they take on Germany in Salvador.
Ronaldo’s absence from the lineup for today’s game with Espanyol means that he and Liverpool star Luis Suarez will share this season’s Golden Shoe.
The Real goal machine would have won the award outright had he played and scored at the Santiago Bernabeu.
