Bernabeu side join White Hart Lane star chase.
Real Madrid are set to join the race to sign Tottenham midfielder Paulinho according to Football Direct News.
The Brazilian international has been strongly linked with a White Hart Lane exit less than a year after moving to the north London club in what was then a club record purchase.
The 25 year old is said to be on Chelsea’s summer transfer window wish-list and now Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti is sniffing around the former Corinthians man.
Paulinho is apparently seen as a long term replacement for Spanish veteran Xabi Alonso, with German Sami Khedira being seen as something of an injury prone risk and the Spurs man may well be tempted to consider a move to either side given that Tottenham failed to secure a Champions League berth.
One imagines that the pursuit of Paulinho will only increase if he puts in a good showing at this summer’s World Cup finals and there may be added pressure for chairman Daniel Levy to balance the books by selling a player or two after investing large sums in his squad last summer.
Paulinho had an average debut campaign this season and was one of a host of signings made by Daniel Levy, who spent upwards of £110m last summer, an outlay that has essentially not seen the north London club progress any nearer to securing that all important top four finish.
