Major stars prove their fitness for European showpiece in Lisbon.
Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema will all start for Real Madrid in this evening’s Champions League final against La Liga winners Atletico Madrid.
Ballon d’Or Ronaldo limped out of the warm-up ahead of last weekend’s 3-1 win over Espanyol with a thigh strain, but he has since proved his fitness.
Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Bale was also regarded as a fitness doubt, but the Welshman starts on the right side of Real’s attack, which is led by Benzema, who has overcome a hamstring issue.
The big news from Atletico’s team is that Chelsea target Diego Costa makes the first XI.
Costa, who has scored 35 goals in 43 La Liga and Champions League games this season, damaged his thigh in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Barcelona.
The 25-year-old had looked set to miss tonight’s game, but a horse placenta treatment appears to have healed him just in time.
It is not all good news for Atletico though, as star midfielder Arda Turan is omitted from the 18-man squad.
Real defender Pepe, who has a calf problem, only makes the bench, while midfielder Xabi Alonso is suspended.
