Luiz is set to join the Ligue 1 champions in the next few days after the two clubs agreed a fee that is believed to rise to £50m.
And that means that the Blues have a space to fill in their back line, with Jose Mourinho keen likely to make a solid move for the Real Madrid stopper, whom he worked with during his time in charge at the club.
Mourinho was the man that brought him to the Spanish capital in 2011, and earlier this year proved that he is still a big admirer of the youngster by hailing him as the “best young central defender in the world.”
The 21-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first team place under Carlo Ancelotti this season, having been hampered with a series of knee injuries.
However, Mourinho will have to move quickly if he is to have any hope of landing the player as he is due to fly out to Brazil soon to link up with Didier Deschamps France side for the World Cup, which kicks off in just under three weeks.
