Chelsea Inquire About Availability Of Real Madrid Starlet Raphael Varane

Blues will move for either Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala or Roma’s Mehdi Benatia if they fail to land the Frenchman this summer. 

Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho is said to be interested in signing coveted Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane as a replacement for the soon to be departed Brazilian David Luiz at Stamford Bridge next season, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The west London club have now agreed to offload their shaggy-haired central defender cum holding midfielder to mega-rich Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, with the final deal set to cost the Parisians as much as £50m when all the various different add ons have been calculated.

And now it is understood that the self-styled Special One will try to persuade the La Liga giants to part company with the highly rated France international this summer, with Mourinho having been in the crowd at the Estadio Dragao in Lisbon on Saturday night to watch Varane in action in the Uefa Champions League final against city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Varane, 22, was actually first brought to the Santiago Bernabeu by the Portuguese who splashed out just 10m euros in order to lure the player to the Spanish capital from Ligue 1 side Lens in the summer of 2011.
