Check in to England vs Italy

Real Madrid have reportedly moved closer to signing Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain as the Spanish giants prepare to meet with the player’s agent on Tuesday, according to Gazzetta dello Sport in Football Italia.

The Champions League winners are hoping to take advantage of the potential Financial Fair Play sanctions that could be placed on the Parisians. PSG have continued to splash the cash despite already being reprimanded by UEFA and they may need to balance their books, to an extent, by selling players.

Real are keen to make the most of this situation, despite the fact that the player and his agent have both claimed Verratti is happy to stay in Paris with the Ligue 1 champions.

Despite this, the Italy international could be available to the Spaniards for around €30 million, making him a relatively cheap signing by their standards. The meeting with his agent, set to be held in Madrid, should be a key step in securing the deal.

The 21–year-old is set to perform for Italy at this summer’s World Cup and could well line up against England on Saturday evening alongside Andrea Pirlo in central midfield. The diminutive midfielder already has six caps for his country and two Ligue 1 titles to his name at such a tender age.
