Athletic Bilbao midfielder has also been linked with Chelsea.
Check in to Australia vs Spain
24-year old Athletic Bilbao central midfielder Anders Herrera is waiting to hear from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea after being close to a Premier League switch last season, reports the Daily Star.
The former Spanish youth international is known to possess very good technical qualities and caught the attention of the Red Devils last summer when David Moyes was at the helm at Old Trafford.
Following Moyes’ sacking though, new Man United boss Louis Van Gaal has reportedly not got back to the player over the prospect of signing him up this summer.
Herrera’s agent was quoted saying about his client’s future, “There’s nothing new. There have been rumours all year saying United wanted to sign him and then Jose Mourinho and Chelsea, but I haven’t heard anything.
“The focus of the player is Athletic and nothing else. Ander is on vacation and he only thinks about next season with Athletic, because he is very excited to play in the Champions League with this team.”
Herrera was seen as the playmaker that would add creativity to a desperately one dimensional Red Devils’ midfield last season, and in truth, the crux of the team has yet to be resolved.
Chelsea’s interest may well have cooled in the advent of Cesc Fabregas signing from FC Barcelona.
