The Croatian is surplus to requirements at Bayern following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund and he has already said he will be seeking a move this summer.
That has alerted several top clubs in England, Italy and Germany to his availability, and the demand for his signature increased last week when his two goals against Cameroon gave Croatia a chance of making it out of the group at the World Cup.
His former club Wolfsburg had been rumoured to be interested, but Wolfsburg’s director of sport Klaus Allofs said a return for the 28-year-old is out of the question.
“It’s just a false announcement, there is no truth to it in the slightest,” Allofs told Sport1 television.
“I think our board of directors have already said what needs to be said about it: we have not had any contact with the player.”
The news will come as a boost to Arsenal, who are keeping tabs on the striker should they fail to land first choice star Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli.
