Liverpool are closing in on a £25m deal for Benfica’s Lazar Markovic, reports the Guardian.

The player has only been in Portugal fro one year since arriving from Partizan, and while Markovic is undeniably talented, the money seems extortionate from someone who has yet to prove himself at an elite level.

Here’s five players Liverpool should have perhaps targeted instead.

5) Juan Cuadrado – Fiorentina

Arsenal have apparently submitted a €28m bid for the Colombian, who hugely impressed at the World Cup before his country were eliminated by Brazil in the quarter-finals. His dribbling is phenomenal, and aged 26, here’s entering his peak years. He’s more versatile than Markovic, and has even been known to play at wing-back during his time In Italy.
