Louis van Gaal is said to be keen on bringing in 27 year old marksman Cavani who is said to be unsettled in the French capital.
Cavani is unhappy with playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with the former Napoli man often used in a wide attacking role to accommodate the Swede but will demand assurances of regular first team action at Old Trafford prior to considering a possible Premier League switch.
Given that van Gaal would struggle to use Cavani, Robin Van Persie AND Wayne Rooney in the same XI it is perhaps plausible that the Dutch national team boss would consider the inclusion of the England international in a move to bring in the Parc des Princes ace.
Rooney finished last term as Man United’s leading goal-scorer and top assist maker but there is a chance the van Gaal will opt to pursue Cavani and therefore be open to sacrificing the 28 year old in that pursuit.
Despite his reported concerns Cavani still netted 25 goals in all competitions last term and racked up an astonishing 104 goals in three seasons at Napoli and is a player who could well thrive in the English top tier.
