Bebe enjoyed a successful loan spell with Pacos Ferreira last season, where he bagged himself a number of fine goals and began to turn the tide of opinion on his abilities, and he has since been tipped to make a permanent return to his homeland over the summer.

The front page of Portuguese paper A Bola covered the story on Saturday morning, with Bebe claiming that Manchester United “will not cut my legs off” in making the deal happen.

The 23-year-old scored 13 goals during his loan spell last season, and though there were calls to reintegrate him into the United squad he looks destined to complete a move to the Estadio da Luz at some point before the new season kicks off.

Bebe said the chance to join Benfica was “a unique opportunity,” and he could now be destined to link up with the club sooner than expected.
