The French international impressed during the World Cup finals, starting all five of Les Bleus matches, and his has apparently led to Jose Mourinho looking to bring in the 21 year old.
Is was Mourinho who brought in the tall defender from Lens to the Bernabeu in 2011 and he should great faith in Varane during his time in charge of the Spanish giants whilst Carlo Ancelotti has seemed less keen on offering the starlet regular action.
The Blues have apparently already made their interest in Varane known and if the player is not offered guarantees of more action he could perhaps be tempted by a move to Stamford Bridge.
This source cites Chelsea’s sale of David Luiz to PSG as a possible motivating factor behind a bid for Varane but that makes little sense given the Brazilian was rarely used in a defensive role by Mourinho.
Mourinho has handed veteran John Terry a new contract and one imagines the Chelsea captain will line up alongside Gary Cahill as the club’s first choice central defensive pairing, this also leaves Branislav Ivanovic and youngster Kurt Zouma as other options, so quite where Varane would fit in is not instantly obvious.
