Van Gaal considers Rooney replacement.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could be considering the future of Wayne Rooney at the club as he keeps an eye on the situation of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, according to the Daily Mail.
The new United boss is being linked with a host of new signings to freshen things up at Old Trafford after the club endured a disastrous campaign under David Moyes last season, finishing in 7th place in the Premier League after some nightmarish results.
Cavani is one of many big names on their radar as it is thought that PSG may be open to selling him this summer, with the Ligue 1 champions needing to bring money in before they can make further signings of their own.
Rooney has not been at his best for some time now, and it is thought that van Gaal will be monitoring the England international’s performances closely as he considers upgrading his attacking options.
The 28-year-old was part of a long-running transfer saga last summer as he was linked strongly with Chelsea, but a move never materialised and the forward signed a new contract with United.
Still, van Gaal is not known for pandering to big names and will not be afraid of making controversial decisions as he prepares for life in the Premier League.
