Khedira missed most of last term through injury but returned to help Real Madrid to their tenth European Cup/Champions League triumph before playing a pivotal role in Germany’s World Cup triumph, albeit missing the final.

Having seen Frank Lampard and David Luiz leave the club this summer Jose Mourinho may well be keen to strengthen his midfield options and the chance to bring in a player of Khedira’s quality on a free transfer is not one that comes along all that often.
