Done Deal: Liverpool Sign Atletico Madrid Right-Back Javier Manquillo

Anfield side bring in young Spaniard.

Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Atletico Madrid youngster Javier Manquillo two season long loan deal.

The 20 year old becomes the seventh Anfield signing of the summer following the successful captures of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi and will provide competition for places at the back.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers may opt replace first choice right-back Glen Johnson, after a fairly average campaign last term, and can call upon youngster John Flanagan or indeed Martin Kelly and now Manquillo.

Following the competition of his move to Merseyside Manquillo stated;

“I’m very happy to have signed for a club like Liverpool. I think it’s one of the biggest in Europe. Any footballer would want to come and play here.

“When they tell you Liverpool want to sign you, I think like any player, you are going to be absolutely amazed and you don’t think of anything else than going straight there.

“It’s a team that nowadays, as I said before, any player would want to be a part of.”

The Madrid born defender has made six La Liga appearances and is considered a hot prospect and was part of the Spanish side that European Under 19 championship in 2012.
