The Gunners will not be looking to sign the Madrid midfielder.
Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira will not be joining Arsenal this summer confirms manager Arsene Wenger.
“We were never close to signing him [Khedira] because Jack Wilshere has come back fit and in midfield we have quite a few offensive box-to-box players,” the Frenchman was quoted by the club’s website.
This brings to an end a long-term saga that involved the Gunners and the Germany international, but wherever the 27-year-old’s future lies it is certainly not at the Emirates Stadium.
Khedira has been strongly linked with a move away from Madrid as the 2014 World Cup winner has just entered the final year of his current contract at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
With no new deal looking likely, Los Blancos either have to cash in on the German this summer or face the prospect of losing him on a free transfer in 12 months time.
The arrival of Khedira’s international teammate Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich also suggests that the midfield ace is surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital.
The Daily Star reports that Chelsea are keen on signing the Madrid star, with Jose Mourinho having signed him for Los Merengues back in 2010 and having a good working relationship with the former Stuttgart man.
