A rare oversight by Arsenal, Dutch left-back Giovanni van Bronckhorst barely got a look in during his short time with Arsenal, leading Barcelona to take the player on loan for the 2003/04 season, before completing a permanent transfer for him a year later. ‘Gio’, as he became known at Barca, then became the club’s first choice on the left-hand side of their defence, becoming a key player in one of the most successful periods of their history, winning two La Liga titles and the Champions League in just four years in Spain.
