Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Sampdoria keeper Sergio Romero according to the Metro.

Brendan Rodgers is expecting to bring in the Argentine international after launching a £1.6m bid for his services.

The 27 year old Argentine was Alejandro Sabella’s first choice starter during this summer’s World Cup finals and displayed a fine run of form that helped his nation reach the World Cup finals.

Romero conceded just four goals in seven matches in Brazil but is apparently surplus to requirements at his Genoa based club, having spent last term on loan at AS Monaco, and could be signed for as little as £2m.
