Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has dashed the transfer hopes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United by reiterating his desire to keep hold of Sami Khedira and Angel Di Maria.
Daily Mail reports have claimed that the Madrid boss will undertake no further transfer business this summer, which means that German midfielder Khedira, and Argentine winger Di Maria will be staying put.
The futures of both players were thought to be in doubt, following the summer arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos, but Ancelotti would prefer both players to stay and fight for their places as he welcomes in a new era of Galacticos.
Arsenal and Chelsea were believed to be long term admirers of Khedira, while Di Maria has been suggested as a potential marquee signing for Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
The source also suggests that Ancelotti has also ruled out making any further additions to his team, including Monaco striker Radamel Falcao – proving a transfer boost to Liverpool, who are desperate for a big-name striker to replace Luis Suarez.
The former AC Milan and Chelsea boss explained during an interview that Khedira and Di Maria haven’t played during pre-season because of fitness issues after a strenuous World Cup.
“Nothing has changed,” the Italian told reporters. “They’re Real Madrid players. I just chose other players for the European Super Cup. Only Kroos played from among those who arrived back on August 5.
“It’s done,” he added. “We’re not looking to make any more signings.”
Real Madrid ominous form ahead of the new La Liga season faded somewhat in their 2-1 loss to Fiorentina on Saturday night at the Bernabeu.
