Manchester United may have been handed a major transfer boost in their pursuit of Angel Di Maria with the news that Real Madrid have left him out of their squad for tonight’s Spanish Super Cup tie against Atletico Madrid, according to L’Equipe.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move for the Argentine winger for much of the summer so far, and may be closing in on a deal for the player as he seems set on leaving the Bernabeu before the end of the transfer window.
The 26-year-old was a key player for Real last season, but now looks to have dropped down in the club’s pecking order after Colombian World Cup star James Rodriguez was brought in from AS Monaco for £63m, and United are thought to be in pole position to snap him up.
Di Maria did not feature in the club’s European Super Cup win over Sevilla either, meaning he is not cup-tied in Europe this season either, and though United are not participating in the Champions League anyway, it opens the door for the player to move to another club as well, with Paris Saint-Germain still monitoring his situation.
