The Argentine World Cup star has been left to languish on the bench so far this term and has been handed just 20 minutes to impress from the bench at the end of games.

He has been unable to break the stronghold held on the starting XI by impressive strike duo Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 29-year-old’s contract is due to expire in the summer of 2016, and with a new contract yet to be concluded – Brendan Rodgers may find himself with an embarrassment of striking riches.

However, Liverpool aren’t the only ones interested in his signature, as they are joined by the likes of Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid are all known to be keeping a close watch on his situation.

But Rodgers’ determination to land his signature could be fostered by his desire to add some bite to Liverpool’s toothless attack that struggles without both Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
