Man United Ace Juan Mata Says David de Gea’s Excellent Performance Was Down To Luck

Juan Mata has announced that Manchester United teammate David de Gea’s excellent form against Everton was down to an unusual lucky talisman…

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has revealed the reason for fellow Spaniard David de Gea’s excellent performance against Everton on the weekend, and the former Chelsea man bizarrely claims it was the shot-stopper’s haircut that did it, as reported by the DailyMail.

During their 2-1 win over the Toffees the 23-year-old pulled off a number of excellent saves, including a penalty from the usually reliable Leighton Baines. He could do nothing at all about Steven Naismith’s leveller, but goals from Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao ensured the win for Louis van Gaal’s side.

Juan Mata believes that it was de Gea’s new haircut that grabbed all three points for the Red Devils however, taking to his blog to thank his keeper’s new do.

“We took the lead thanks to Angel (di Maria) and then David (de Gea) started his amazing performance. First he saved (Leighton) Baines’ penalty,” he wrote.

“In the second half they tied the game and later on Radamel (Falcao) scored (I am very happy for you, the first one of many more goals, I’m sure).”

“And then David did several extraordinary saves to keep the three points at home. What a superb performance! It seems his new haircut brought him luck…!”

This early in the season a single win can drastically change the look of the table, with this win launching previously struggling Manchester United into the top four.

With their defence still looking shaky, van Gaal has a long way to go before he can get his new side challenging for the Premier League, but with two wins on the trot their campaign is already starting to look a lot better.

The Dutchman is unlikely to want to rely on lucky haircuts to get him through the season, so he will be hoping his players and the team as a whole can kick on from this and string a few decent performances together.
