Controversy as Kaka makes surprise return to Brazil fold.

Brazilian journalist Rafael Hernandez has controversially claimed that Kaka’s return to the national team setup for this weekend’s friendly match against Argentina in Beijing is a marketing ploy.

The 32-year-old, currently on loan at Sao Paulo from Orlando City, is widely seen as being past his best after a great career in Europe with the likes of AC Milan and Real Madrid, but made a surprise substitute appearance late on his side’s 2-0 win over Argentina this afternoon.

With Kaka being one of the biggest names in football in the last decade or so, Hernandez feels the player’s brand is being used to attract the interest of audiences in Beijing, and that the Brazilian’s return to the team after a lengthy absence is a marketing ploy rather than an effort to include him in the squad for the long run.

Prior to this game, Kaka had made only five appearances for Brazil since 2010, and was ommitted from the team’s World Cup squad and Confederations Cup squads in the last two years.
