The Anfield side are no doubt keen on strengthening an attack that has struggled to fill the void left by Luis Suarez’s departure to Barcelona and may see the versatile German international as a viable option.

The 25 year old’s Westfalenstadion contract includes a very reasonable £28m release clause that becomes active next summer, with Borussia Dortmund desperate to tie down the former Borussia Monchengladbach man to a fresh deal.

Bayern Munich are keen on landing Reus as are Premier League sides Arsenal and Man United.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers signed Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert to help fill the goal-scoring burden shouldered in no small part by Suarez but the pair haven’t managed a Premier League goal between them and Daniel Sturridge continues to struggle to recover from an ongoing calf strain injury.

Reus joined Borussia Dortmund after they had secured back to back Bundesliga titles but has seen his side fall behind Bayern Munich over the past two campaigns but has nonetheless been impressive, netting 43 goals in 92 appearances.
