Two extra-time goals from Bruce Djite sealed the win for the Reds as the Sky Blues had centre-back Nikola Petkovic sent off for a high boot on Fabio Ferreira with three minutes remaining of normal time.

Arnold labelled the decision an “embarrassment” on in front a TV camera during the game after Williams stopped the match to brandish a red card only after an Adelaide attack was broken down.

“I feel for the fans and the viewers and most of all I feel sorry for the players,” Arnold said.

“I made my feelings known in the emotion of the game.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen a red card given after play on … they both get up and chased the ball.”

Adelaide United now move onto the semi-final stage of the FFA Cup, while Sydney FC will now put all its focus on its A-League clash with Brisbane Roar on Friday.
