The controversy arose because the Lobos ‘keeper saved Puebla’s third penalty but the ref ordered a retake due to a small encroachment. The retake was scored.
Lobos BUAP then saw their decisive fifth penalty saved with the Puebla ‘keeper much further off his line than the save which caused a retake moments earlier, but the ref overlooked it and allowed the goal to stand.
Was it a fix to prevent a second division side progressing to the final and a possible Copa Libertadores playoff game?
