Sturridge is still recovering from a calf injury, and revealed to the Daily Mail that he is trying some unusual diet tricks to get himself back to fitness as soon as possible.

The striker has been chowing down on quinoa and bee pollen, two trendy foods usually more associated with middle-class mothers than top-class footballers.

“I started looking into health foods about five years ago and did a lot of research on the internet,” said the England attacker. “It’s important that I eat the right things to give my muscles ammunition.”
