Undoubtedly the best piece of business that Rodgers has done at Anfield is bring the England international to the club in a £12m deal from Chelsea. Sturridge has scored an incredible 36 goals in 52 appearances at Anfield, making his fee a bargain, but there are some at Stamford Bridge who believe Rodgers has taken too much credit for the deal.

Some have suggested that Rodgers was reluctant to sanction a permanent deal in 2012, and had to be pushed to do so during the January window. But whatever the truth is, the Sturridge deal has been embarrassing for Chelsea, but an unmitigated success for Rodgers.
