Again, whilst at Swansea in 2012, he was tipped as a potential successor to Andre Villas Boas, who had just been sacked. His brand of attractive football had some some of the Stamford Bridge chiefs to seriously consider him as their next manager.

But when asked about a potential return to Chelsea, Rodgers replied: “If any of our fans are wondering about me and Chelsea, they need not panic. I am trying to build my career and not destroy it.” He may have only been half joking, but Chelsea took it as a show if disrespect and it did not go down well at all.
