Stamford Bridge side close in on Nou Camp centre-back.
Chelsea are expected to complete the January capture of out of favour Barcelona star Gerard Pique according to the Metro.
The 27 year old Spanish international has started just five of Barcelona’s ten La Liga fixtures and is set to leave the Nou Camp for pastures new but will snub Man United in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge according to this source.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already made an offer of £23.6m for Pique and a deal is apparently set to be agreed that will see Pique move to west London when the transfer window re-opens.
Mourinho may see Pique as a replacement for veteran John Terry though one wonders when what will become of young Frenchman Kurt Zouma, who seemed set to fill just such a role.
Chelsea successfully landed Cesc Fabregas from the Catalan giants in the summer and a move for Pique will certainly be something of a statement of intent.
Pique represented Barcelona from the age of 10 up until he moved to Man United at the age of 17 but the made an emotional return to his hometown club in 2008 and has at times been considered one of the best defenders in European football.
The World Cup winner has made 274 appearances for Barcelona but has certainly been someway below his best when called upon this term.
