The promising French youngster has been one of the top young defenders in Europe in recent times, first making his breakthrough in the senior Real Madrid side under Jose Mourinho during his time in charge at the Bernabeu.
The 21-year-old faces plenty of competition for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineup, however, with experienced pairing Pepe and Serio Ramos currently ahead of him in the pecking order this season.
This could see Chelsea strike a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge for a reunion with Mourinho, and it is thought that the club will work on a deal in the coming months to sign him up for next season.
Mourinho needs a long-term replacement for the ageing John Terry in the heart of his defence, and Varane could make an excellent signing for the Blues as they look to build for the future.
Although Real will not want to see a player as promising as Varane leave the club, every player has his price and Chelsea sense a deal could be possible.
