The German international could be a good alternative to Sami Khedira for the Gunners, with recent reports claiming that the 27-year-old could be set to remain with current club Real Madrid, in a surprise twist in the transfer market.
Bender has attracted strong interest from Arsenal in the past after impressing in the Bundesliga, though it is also claimed that La Liga giants Barcelona are chasing him ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Still, the Catalan giants are also interested in Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, with the young Spaniard establishing himself as one of the best young playmakers in Europe after his fine form in the last couple of years.
If Barca prioritise the signing of Koke, it could allow Arsene Wenger to swoop for long-time target Bender, who would no doubt make an improvement on the current options of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini in that part of the pitch.
Arsenal could do with more protection for their fragile defence as they look to get their disappointing season back on track.
