Stadio Olimpico side want Anfield full-back.
AS Roma are closing in on a deal to sign Liverpool full-back Glen Johson next summer according to the Metro.
The Serie A side are able to tie down the 30 year old to a pre-contract deal in January ahead of a free transfer move next summer with the England man nearing the end of his Anfield contact and with no new deal on the table.
The former West Ham, Chelsea and Portsmouth man has been used sparingly by Brendan Rodgers this term, with loaned in youngster Javier Manquillo performing well, and when called upon Johnson has certainly done little to warrant a new contract.
Johnson’s wage demands are deemed excessive though this will be less relevant for the Stadio Olimpico side as the defender wouldn’t cost them a penny.
Ashley Cole made a similar move to the club over the summer and Rudi Garcia appears keen to repeat the trick and bring in another English full-back to beef up his back-line.
Liverpool paid Pompey £17m for Johnson in 2009 and on the whole he has proven something of a disappointment during his five year stint on Merseyside.
