Anfield side linked with interest in St Mary’s full-back.
Liverpool are today linked with another Southampton raid with talkSPORT claiming that Brendan Rodgers could be interested in Nathaniel Clyne.
With Glen Johnson’s contract set to expire there is perhaps scope to bring in the in-form Saints star though would the 23 year old be keen on such a switch?
His Southampton side are riding high in the top four and having seen how Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana have fared since making the same move over the summer he may opt to avoid a Merseyside switch.
Clyne is into his third season at Southampton and his progress at St Mary’s has led to an England call-up and he may well feel he needn’t follow his former team-mates to a Saints exit in order to meet his ambitions.
One imagines that talk of a possible exit would wait until the end of the current campaign and if Ronald Koeman has secured European football then there would be even less of a reason to seek a transfer.
Rodgers will not have been all that impressed with Johnson’s efforts this term and though loaned in Spaniard Javier Manquillo started the season well he hasn’t maintained that early season form.
