Red Devils have advantage in midfielder bid.
Manchester United could now be in a stronger position to sign AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman this January after the club’s exit from the Champions League, according to the Independent.
It was claimed prior to yesterday evening’s matches that Strootman would be more likely to leave the Stadio Olimpico this winter if Rudi Garcia’s side failed to qualify from their group into the knockout stages of the Champions League, and last night’s defeat at home to Manchester City has now confirmed their exit from the competition.
Strootman has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and it may now be that the club will be in a stronger position to sign him for less than his supposed £79m asking price set by the Italian giants in the summer.
The Dutch playmaker looks a top performer and one who could add something to this United squad, with Louis van Gaal determined to continue spending to improve his squad this January.
Roma may now struggle to keep their star player if United do come calling this winter.
