Gerrard reportedly clashed with Dejan Lovren following the Reds’ defeat at Crystal Palace.
Liverpool’s 2014/15 season is threatening to spiral dangerously out of control, with news emerging from the Daily Star that Reds captain Steven Gerrard was involved in an ugly dressing room bust up with teammate Dejan Lovren following the club’s dismal defeat at Crystal Palace last month – reports that will do little to cheer Liverpool supporters on the day that their side were beaten 3-0 by bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The defeat at Selhurst Park was one of the low points of Liverpool’s season so far as they failed to capitalise on an early opening goal by Rickie Lambert and crumbled against Neil Warnock’s industrious Eagles, eventually falling to a deserved 3-1 defeat.
Centre back Lovren, who was signed for £20 million from Southampton in the summer and has failed to impress at Anfield, reportedly blamed his captain for Palace’s goals due to a lack of cover from midfield, an assertion rejected by Gerrard.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is reported to have sided with the former England star on the issue, dropping Croatian international Lovren for the next four games before he returned to the side for the trip to Old Trafford today – gifting United their third goal with a poor clearance that allowed Robin van Persie to sweep home.
