The 29 year old impressed a great deal whilst on Mexican national team duty at this summer’s World Cup finals and if Brendan Rodgers can bring in a player of Ochoa’s quality for a relatively modest fee of £3m then he will have done very well indeed.

Rodgers elected to drop first choice custodian Simon Mignolet for Sunday’s defeat to Man United and it’s fair to say that not many would deem Aussie Brad Jones as a suitably impressive alternative and Ochoa may be a cost effective way to boost the club’s options between the sticks.

By all accounts the two sides have agreed a fee for the former Ajaccio keeper and a January move is imminent.
