Reds to deal major transfer blow to Gunners.
Liverpool could be set to deal a major blow to Arsenal’s transfer hopes this January as they join the race to sign Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, according to the Daily Express.
The Reds are keen to tighten up at the back this winter after a bad start to the season, with summer signing Dejan Lovren looking particularly culpable in defence as Brendan Rodgers’ side have leaked goals.
Van Dijk’s fine form in Scotland has seen him strongly linked with Arsenal in recent times, with Arsene Wenger’s side also desperately in need of improvements in the centre-back department.
However, the Gunners could now struggle to snap up the highly-rated Dutchman as he becomes one of Liverpool’s top targets, with the Merseysiders expected to step up their interest in the 23-year-old.
Tottenham Hotspur may also be in with a chance of signing van Dijk, whose future at Celtic looks increasingly uncertain as the next transfer window draws nearer.
