Emirates Stadium side linked with surprise bid to sign Bernabeu defender.
Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos according to the Metro.
This source claims that Arsene Wenger has been in talks with the 28 year old Spanish international’s agent ahead of a possible bid for the World Cup winner.
Such a move would be a massive surprise given just how crucial Ramos is to Carlo Ancelotti’s first team set-up, indeed the former Sevilla man must be one of the first name’s on the Italian manager’s team-sheet.
Ramos has been in ongoing talks about agreeing a long term contract extension with the Bernabeu outfit and it seems fairly likely that any speculation about a move away from the Spanish giants may be an attempt by the player’s agent to leverage a better deal for his client.
There is no doubt Arsenal could well do with a fresh defensive addition but one has to wonder why Ramos would consider leaving Real Madrid for the north London side.
Real Madrid are top of La Liga, reigning Champions League title holders and in the middle of a 22 match winning streak, a move at this stage would be incredibly odd.
Arsenal have struggled at the back this term with an injury crisis leaving Wenger with threadbare options at times and the poor form displayed by German Per Mertesacker hasn’t helped matters.
