Victor Valdes excited to be working with David de Gea.
New Manchester United signing Victor Valdes has indicated that he feels his new teammate and international compatriot David de Gea is the best in the world, report Goal, and the former Barcelona star is looking forward to helping out the Red Devils’ young star after signing an 18 month contract with the club today.
De Gea has been one of the most impressive performers in the Premier League this season and has won numerous points for Louis van Gaal’s side single handedly – meaning that Valdes will have a fight on his hands if he is intending on becoming first choice at Old Trafford.
However, Valdes indicated that his main role at United may be as a mentor to the club’s younger players, as opposed to someone to really push de Gea for his place, if comments attributed to an interview with the club’s official website are anything to go by:
“I think now, in the moment, [De Gea] is the best goalkeeper in the world. His performance every day and in every game shows everybody that his level is very high.”
“He has had a great year and it is very nice. Now I think he is the best goalkeeper in the world.”
“I am here to help everybody. Always in my career, I have played to help my team-mates, to help my coach and to help everybody.”
Former Spanish international Valdes has been training with United in recent weeks in a bid to prove his fitness after leaving Barcelona with a serious knee injury – but he is now likely to usurp Anders Lindegaard as the main cover for his fellow Spaniard.
