The Dutchman has just 18 months left on his Old Trafford contract.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is beginning to fear for his future with the club, according to reports from the Sun, as the Dutchman’s contract at Old Trafford edges ever closer to expiring, with just 18 months left on the former Arsenal star’s deal.

The report suggests that van Persie had intended to finish his career with United after making the controversial switch from the Emirates Stadium two and a half years ago, but United are yet to decide whether to his extend his initial four year deal, leading van Persie to consider whether another move could be on the cards for the prolific marksman.

It is suggested that a decision on van Persie’s contractual situation will be made by the Red Devils in the summer, but a source is quoted as saying that the player is being increasingly led to believe that his future could lie away from Old Trafford.

The goals of van Persie were integral to firing United to the Premier League title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge of the club, but he has been less prolific since and has had to contend with Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao for a place in Louis van Gaal’s first team this season.
