The 46-year-old journalist began his career at the now defunct BBC GLR after graduating from the London College of Printing with a masters in Broadcast Journalism.
Mainly a radio based presenter, he then moved onto BBC Radio Essex as a regular football reporter before joining BBC Radio 5 Live in 1998 – an organisation he has remained at since.
Pougatch has helmed the main Saturday edition of 5Live Sport since August 200and presents the weekday editions of the show on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The presenter has also been a regular host on Premier League TV throughout the football season.
And for his craft he was awarded the 2012 Sports Journalism Association award for Sports Broadcaster of the Year.
Despite signing on for ITV’s football coverage, Pougatch will still hold down his current roles with the BBC and PLTV.
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining ITV and to be given this great opportunity. I’m looking forward to working with ITV’s talented pool of commentators and pundits on some of the very best football there is,” said Pougatch on his appointment.
ITV lose the rights to both the Champions and Europa League at the end of this season but will have the ability to show highlights from the tournaments which presumably Pougatch will front.
He will also be responsible for shepherding the broadcasters exclusive coverage of the European Championship and World Cup qualifying matches and friendlies of the England national team until at least 2018.
