Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal will look to bring in the experienced Brazilian this month with the 31 year old seemingly set to move to the Premier League side this month.
Alves’s Nou Camp contract expires in the summer and as such Barcelona may elect to cash-in on the wing-back in preference to losing the player on a free transfer.
Van Gaal is said to be ‘confident’ about sealing a deal to sign the former Sevilla man who would provide a huge improvement on the options he currently has at right-back.
The likes of Rafael and Chris Smalling haven’t impressed in the role whilst Luis Antonio Valencia’s move to play in the role hasn’t proven all that successful.
In his pomp Alves has been considered one of the best in the world in the position and could be open to a fresh challenge after seven seasons at Barca.
Alves has won a host of honours during his time at Catalan giants Barcelona and is precisely the level of acquisition that van Gaal needs to be making if he is to help Man United rediscover their form.
