The 28 year old missed out on Liverpool’s penalty shoot-out win over Cardiff City in the 2012 League Cup Final but hopes he can be part of the team that edges past Chelsea on Tuesday night ahead of a Wembley day out.
Lucas remembers the day bitterly and a promise Gerrard made to him;
“It was hard for me… I remember when we were on our way into the stadium. I was a little bit down because I wanted to be part of it out on the pitch.
“Then Stevie sent me a text which said, ‘Don’t worry, we will get here again.’ It is something that I always remember and hopefully we will make that come true. That would be special.
“I have never played at Wembley – it is something I would like to do, and in a final would be brilliant.”
Lucas has missed a fair bit of action with persistent knee injury issues but when fully fit the tough tackling Anfield star has been a hugely crucial member of Brendan Rodgers’ side this term.
The former Gremio man has made 12 Premier League appearances this season and Liverpool have lost just one of the fixtures he’s been involved in and Rodgers will hope he can play his part in helping to overcome Chelsea in the second leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final.
Liverpool secured a 1-1 draw from the home tie between the two sides but arguably deserved more from the first leg clash.
