The Gunners are said to be preparing an official approach for the Portuguese international, who is currently second choice left-back at the La Liga side, and that Real Madrid are ‘likely’ to accept their offer.
The 26 year old former Benfica man has made just three La Liga starts this term and may well be ready for a fresh challenge having seen Marcelo firmly in place as Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice starter.
This source states that Coentrao is valued at £25m but one imagines Real Madrid will accept far less for the wide-man, not least as his last start for club came during last weekend’s embarrassing 4-0 reverse at local rivals Atletico.
One wonders if Arsenal are in urgent need of a new left-back given that Wenger can currently call upon both Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal.
