They join Merseyside rivals Everton and the recently manager-less Aston Villa in the 4,000 club.

Guess who scored the landmark goal…? Sadly, it wasn’t Mario (for comedy value) or Stevie (for sentimental value), but instead Serbian Lazar Markovic, who put the Reds 1-0 up after 14 minutes.

Everton hold the record for the most goals with 4,208, while it is relegation-threatened Aston Villa who are second with 4,025. Something tells us Liverpool will be moving ahead of Villa in the very near future!

Liverpool are now just one point behind Spurs in the battle for the top four after their 3-2 win last night. They sit five points behind Man Utd in third, but the Red Devils still have to travel to Anfield. Elsewhere in the top four fight, Southampton could only draw 0-0 at home to West Ham.
